Why Joe has their vote
Displays why others are voting for Joe Biden. These are randomly selected.
Because he is the most qualified. He knows are problems, has common sense solutions that will work and isn't catering to the constituency. He will get the job done and done right!
Strong experienced leader.
I agree with his political views!
This was supposed to be a brief pitch to raise support for Senator Biden’s campaign, but it turned into a slighter longer and unwieldy pitch. On top of that, I’m not even done writing it. Hopefully, some of you can let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy!
Joe Biden has 32 years experience as a politician and he has 30 years behind him on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and 14 on the Judiciary. He is the most respected of all the candidates on both sides of the aisle, especially on foreign policy, which is traditionally under the purview of the president. He is an independent thinker, a pragmatic idealist and brings valuable nuanced insight to politics and public discourse and knows how to navigate the intricacies of the system.
He is not only strong on matters of foreign relations and the judiciary (he also teaches law at a college and has degrees in law, history & political science), but he is also strong on domestic issues. He authored such bills as the Biden Crime Bill (aka the COPS program) that put 10,000 cops on the street to a bill that set up shelters and hotlines for women being victimized by their abusive husbands. If you would like, I can elaborate a little more on his domestic issues.
Biden is the only Democratic candidate I know of who has the most bipartisan appeal. A relatively recent poll shows that Biden is the most trusted Dem on foreign policy, which is traditionally the province of the president. Biden is the only politician who has a comprehensive plan for ending the war in Iraq, which scores him a lot of points among upwards of 3 million voters. He beat out Hillary Clinton on a recent debate on Iraq (and Iraq is likely going to be the most important issue in 2008). Plus, he's the only viable candidate who has a chance among the far-left, at least compared to Hillary, who votes more than 40% of the time with Bush while Biden votes less than 20% of the time with Bush. Yet, he commands tremendously more bipartisan respect. I think this is because Hillary is seen as pandering too much to the right while alienating BOTH sides.
His plan for Iraq is endorsed by an endless list of experts: former Secretaries of State Madeline Albright, James Baker and Henry Kissinger, Former Iraq Defense Minister Ali Allawi, Former UN Ambassador Richard Holbrooke and Bill Richardson (also a 2008 candidate), Ambassadors Dennis Ross, Peter W. Galbraith and Richard Haass (who is now president of the CFR), Michael O'Hanlon, Walter Russell Mead, Anne Marie Slaughter, Juan Cole, Leslie Gelb (CFR’s presidential emeritus and co-author of the Biden-Gelb plan) and a bipartisan array of public officials, including Senators Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Richard Lugar, Sam Brownback, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Chuck Hagel and Congressman Chris Van Hollen. Media pundits such as the NYT’s Thomas Friedman and David Brooks, Newsweek’s Michael Hirsch, Washington Time’s Tony Blankley and the Washington Post’s David Broder, Jackson Dieh and David Ignatius also praise it. Joining that list is the New Yorker’s George Packer and even Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly (and Fox News, however unfortunate, plays an inordinate role in presidential elections). Even Hillary Clinton is starting to endorse Biden’s plan (I don’t want to brag, but that sure sounds like 2 Democratic candidates- Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton- endorsing Biden’s Iraq’s plan, a plan for the main issue of the 2008 election).
Liberals are scared that Biden is too moderate, or even right wing, especially on civil liberties cases. His issue ratings say otherwise: Biden has a 92% approval rating from the ACLU from 2005-2006, while he had an 86% rating in 2003-2004. The other Democratic frontrunners (ignoring others who don’t stand a chance such as Feingold, who interestingly enough has only scored 80% from 2001-2002 and even he seems to have a “mixed civil rights record” up until 2005) to my knowledge do not even score as well (Obama, another frontrunner, doesn’t even have a long enough record in the US Senate to count).
Critics also say that he tends conservative on abortion/choice issues. Again, his issue group ratings indicate otherwise: Biden scored 100% with Planned Parenthood, 100% with NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2005, 2004, and 2001. He scored 90% with NARAL in 2000 and 83% in 1996-2000. He also scored 71% with Planned Parenthood in 1999. The only things Biden seems to raise an eyebrow at are partial-birth abortions and late-term abortions.
And, statistically speaking, more than 86% of Americans don't like extremes of either party. In other words, most Americans would classify themselves as centrist. Biden appeals to that constituency, which I think is his main attraction.
Like I said, I’m not done and I am well aware that this is far from perfect. Hopefully, some of you can let me know what you think.
Iraq. Iraq. Iraq. As Senator Biden says, it's the boulder in the road. You want health care? We need to fix Iraq. You want education? Fix Iraq.
Joe Biden is the only candidate who has laid out a concrete political solution on what to do to get us out of Iraq and keep us out. Got to joebiden.com.
He is the most experienced
Great position on Iraq, and finally a candidate who is stepping up and acting on Darfur!
He has the most experience out of anyone else in the, the only won who has shown that he is not deterred in the face of scrutiny and shares a dream that is synonymous with that of the public. Most importantly, he's the only candidate that's able to make the dream come true.
Joe Biden is the only candidate with the courage to commit to taking real action on the issues that matter. He has stood up for what he believes is right time and time again. For instance, he is the only candidate who would commit to ending the genocide in southern Sudan, which is currently spreading into the neighboring countries and tearing central Africa apart. I respect someone who would do what is necessary and just, without a selfish motivation. Our country needs to save face for the wrongs we have committed in recent past, and something like this shows our interest in supporting a world where America is the champion of human life and rights.
Biden is pragmatic yet principled.
I watched the Nevada debate and he seemed like the most composed and intelligent of all candidates.
He's the most experienced in his party and the most sincere. His knowledge of foreign affairs far exceeds his colleagues.
Joe Biden is the only candidate with the perfect mix of socially consciious domestic policies, in depth foreign relation experience and know-how, and an ability to bring people from both sides to compromise and reach a shared goal.
As an Iraq veteran, I have a deep, personal interest in solutions for current Iraq, counter-terrorism and use-of-force C-F's. Obama inspires me; but Biden is the only one I've seen in this race whose depth of understanding of MidEast & military crises provides *substantial* hope that the next POTUS can change things in ways that won't simply redirect conflict.
Sure I'd like to listen to a great speech any day... but I'd rather follow a Prez who is blunt and In-Your-FACE enough to move a national bureaucracy that lives on inertia!
Biden is the ONLY one talking sense about withdrawal: it's ridiculous to assume that removing US troops will "end the war" -- even worse to suppose that a non-strategic withdrawal can be done "quickly" or "safely". It's downright *naive* to insist that sunni, shia & kurd groups within Iraq will figure out how to Kumbayah & build a happy govt just because the US military hasta-la-vistas. Biden has been right this whole time about Federalism as the realistic option for Iraq. It's tragic that it's taken this long for DC to come around.
Most importantly? Biden's own son will share the fate of my closest friends, my husband & myself. It is IMPOSSIBLE to know what things are really like in Iraq or even stateside military units, except through a very close friend or relative who can let down their guard & give the personal opinions we usually have to stifle. (just ask joe lieberman... ok, don't...)
I'm sick of politicians who don't have anything on the line other than their own precious careers.
I'm proud to support a candidate whose service-oriented values are actually evidenced by his life & family!
-- mel :-)
Joe Biden has the convictions, ideas, and, most of all, the experience to be an excellent President of he United States. I urge anyone who is on the fence to look at his record and compare it with the other candidates in the race; he has served in the senate longer than Clinton, Obama, and Edwards combined and serves as chair of the Senate Committee of Foreign Relations. He is the only candidate to offer a comprehensive plan to deal with the situation in Iraq.
He's the only candidate with a plan for Iraq...plus he's a fox!
Hilary has no ideas of her own. Barrack believes in entitlement. Edwards spends more money on haircuts than some people do on monthly rent. Biden is willing to take on the task of Darfur and leave Iraq. You must use force in Sudan to stop the genocide. And those other three candidates are just not up front about their ideas or they have none of their own with the partial exception to Edwards but I believe you have to wipe your hands of anyone associated with John Kerry.
Joe Biden truly has the power to change the course of this nation and the world. Literally, I mean that with all sincerity. His experience over three-decades in the Senate and as the chairman of the Foreign Relations committee, not to mention all he's done for domestic issues in America, truly has prepared him for the White House in '08.
Go Biden 2008!
I believe Joe Biden is an honest politician who says what he thinks.
Joe Biden has the experience and knowledge to control the situation in Iraq in order to shift the nation's attention to Homeland causes such as health care, education, and the environment.
With the position our country is currently in, internationally, we need someone with a strong international/foreign policy background. In addition, I personally believe that Joe Biden has the least politician feel to him, and he's not into BS.
Brilliant, the best candidate to lead our country.
Biden's Iraq plan is great! I also like his $3000 college tax credit.
Joe Biden is the best qualified candidate who is running for president. He has a ridiculous amount of experience with foreign relations (he's chaired the Senate foreign relations committee for a while now) and he has a great track record on women's rights (authored and pushed very hard to pass the Violence Against Women Act). He also has a great track record on fighting against and stopping genocide. He was one of the first people to notice what was going on in Bosnia and Kosovo in the 90's and pressured President Clinton to do something about it. He's also been very outspoken on ending the genocide in Darfur. He has the best plan for how to get us out of Iraq while stopping the region from spiraling into more violence and genocide.
by far the strongest, smartest, and most complete politician.
