Nunn on Obama's VP list
Charles Edwards
ATLANTA, GA
(2008-06-23)
Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has to pick a running mate and he's considering a former US Senator from Georgia.
The Obama campaign has confirmed former Senator Sam Nunn is on a list of potential vice presidential candidates. Currently, Nunn is one of Obama's foreign policy advisors.
During his 24 years in the Senate, Nunn was known for his expertise on defense and foreign policy matters.
Nunn is one choice among others including former Presidential candidate John Edwards. Even if Obama doesn't pick Nunn, the white man from Middle Georgia could help Obama win red states like Georgia. That's according to Southern Political Report editor Tom Baxter.
BAXTER: He doesn't have to win a large percentage of white votes but he has to do a little better than John Kerry did four years ago. So, anything like a Sam Nunn, any kind of endorsement like that helps him to win more white votes.
However, others question Nunn's influence on today's voters. The former Senator is almost 70-years-old and has shied away from the limelight since leaving public office in 1996. © Copyright 2008, WABE
