CEA Again Calls For XM/Sirius Passage

The Consumer Electronics Association has once again asked the Federal Communications Commission to approve the pending merger between XM and Sirius Satellite Radio.

CEA President/CEO Gary Shapiro, the group said, wrote a letter this week to FCC chairman Kevin Martin, asking the FCC to “move quickly” on the merger. Shapiro added that a quick decision on the merger would “provide confidence to consumers and clarity in the marketplace.”

More than a year after it was announced, the merger was cleared in March by the Department of Justice’s antitrust division, leaving FCC passage as its last remaining hurdle.

Also Thursday, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, a conservative Republican, urged the FCC to reject the merger. According to the radio industry Web site RadioInk.com, Brownback wrote a letter asking that the FCC preserve competitive rules by rejecting the merger. He also accused the companies of “[basing] their business models on peddling obscene and indecent content.”

Do you think the merger will be passed? Talk about it in the Dealerscope forums.

Why are we asking this?

Who is this Sen. Sam Brown"Nose"Back? Probably just another paid NAB stockholder or just receiving $$$$$ again to stop merger between Sirius & XM.
I hope that the FCC can also see as did the DOJ through the BS and approve this long awaited merger.
Let get'r done and approve the merger.
